MC Primer CSG (Cold Store Grade) is a two-part MMA resin primer and concrete sealer specifically formulated for use in cold stores, freezers and other sub-zero environments. Designed for application temperatures between -25°C and 0°C, it features very rapid curing characteristics, providing an extremely tough, totally impervious primer with excellent chemical resistance. Its low-viscosity formulation ensures maximum penetration into porous concrete, strengthening the substrate whilst delivering outstanding adhesion for MMA repair mortars and floor coatings

Typical Uses

Due to its outstanding dustproofing and surface hardening properties, MC Primer CSG may be used as a concrete sealer without further coating. As a primer, it is compatible with a range of MMA resin-based repair materials and floor coatings such as Polycote Cretex MC CSG and Flortex MC CSG. Its very rapid cure time makes MC Primer CSG ideal for use in areas of constant traffic where disruption must be minimised.

MC Primer CSG (Cold Store Grade) is designed for use below 0 degrees, such as cold stores, freezers, and exterior applications in harsh climates, whereas MC Primer Std (Standard Grade) is ideal for use in cold areas that are above 0 degrees, such as fridges,

Suitable substrates

MC Primer CSG may be applied to old and new concrete. It should not be applied until the concrete has been cured for a minimum of 1 month or until the moisture content is 5% or below.

Colour

MC Primer CSG is colourless and translucent.

Packaging

MC Primer CSG is supplied in pre-measured quantities as a two-part system, comprising of a 5L unit of acrylic resin Part ‘A’ and a powder hardener Part ‘B’.

Coverage

The coverage of MC Primer CSG is between 15-20m² per 5 litre unit, depending on the texture and porosity of the substrate. Usually a single coat is sufficient, however if the surface is extremely porous, we recommend two coats.

Pot life 10-12 minutes
Application temperature -25ËšC to 0ËšC
Curing Time 2 hours
Coverage per 5L unit 15-20m²
Shelf life 6 months
Storage Store in a cool dry environment away from sources of ignition.

Please consult the technical data sheet for full technical product data.

Preparation

The surface must be free from grease, oil or contamination, and must be dry.

Powerfloated concrete – use a Vacuum Assisted Shotblaster to remove weak laitence and provide a surface key for the coating. If this is not possible, chemically etch with Polycote Etch IT then rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.

Loose paint – remove, using a Vacuum Assisted Shotblaster, Floor Grinder or equivalent method.

Loose or friable concrete – use a Vacuum Assisted Shotblaster. If this is not possible, chemically clean with Polycote Etch IT then rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.

Oil or grease – use Hot Compressed Air for large areas of contamination. Smaller, isolated deposits may be chemically cleaned with Polycote Degrease IT, then rinsed thoroughly and allowed to dry.

See relevant Data Sheet prior to application.

ONCE PREPARED, THE AREA MUST BE KEPT CLEAN AND FREE OF TRAFFIC.

Caution – MC Primer CSG is methyl methacrylate based and has a characteristic odour during the vaporising of the solvent. Although non-toxic and non-injurious to health, this can cause tainting and OPEN food products should therefore be removed or sealed during and following application until the vapour has dispersed.

Mixing

BEFORE MIXING THIS PRODUCT YOU MUST BE TOTALLY PREPARED for rapid uninterrupted application of the complete mixed quantity WITHIN 12 MINUTES.

Thoroughly shake the resin to ensure dispersion of the contents, then pour all the contents into a clean plastic bucket. Add the hardener powder and thoroughly mix for at least 3 minutes. For best results use a heavy-duty slow speed drill with a mixing paddle.

Application

Immediately apply the mixture using a brush, roller or squeegee, making sure that the surface is completely covered. Particular attention should be given to doorways and other areas of high traffic. When finished, do NOT scrape the remaining contents from the container as this will invariably include unmixed raw resin.

When priming for Cretex MC CSG – it is advisable to scatter kiln dried quartz aggregate (0.3 – 0.6mm) into the wet MC Primer CSG coating at a rate if 1kg/m² to increase adhesion of the repair material

Tip: For Cold Store Grade – the workable life of the material will be maximised if it has been conditioned (e.g. store in the cold store itself) prior to mixing.
