Diamond Grinding is a surface preparation method that Infinity Resins and its teams have used for years. The process is well established in the resin flooring trade and as with all technologies it has developed hugely to what is now a versatile, easy-to-use and proven method.
As with all floor and wall coverings, preparation is incredibly important and a failure to prepare the surface properly can have disruptive and costly implications. A surface that has not be prepared properly will not allow the new surface coating to bond and wear properly or effectively. The new coating or screed is likely to break up and delaminate from the surface over time.
As a company we ensure that all our operatives are trained and experienced with the process and the diamond grinding machinery that we use. From the point of our initial site survey and quotation, we will recommend and fully communicate the expectations to our installation teams to ensure we deliver a quality, long lasting and durable solution.
Although unseen, preparation is vital and as the old saying goes “If you fail to prepare, you can prepare to fail”.
Why do we need to Diamond Grind a surface?
Surface preparation prior to the application of any coating or screed is absolutely paramount. The old saying stands true – “if you fail to prepare, you can prepare to fail”.
Diamond grinding is both quick and effective and has therefore become loved throughout the floor coating and resin flooring coating industry. Resin installers and other floor preparation companies have been using diamond grinding for years.
So, you may ask “What makes you different?”
What makes us different is our use of this equipment. Many people use floor grinders but they don’t select the correct machinery or attachments to achieve the desired outcome. We pride ourselves with expertise to assess existing floors to ensure that we correctly recommend a solution. At Infinity Resins, we always go over and above on the level of preparation and we strive to deliver quality every time.
When would you NOT diamond grind a surface?
There are times when diamond grinding is not the most suitable, or not the best method of preparation you could use. Although not very common the following are a few examples;
- A very rough floor that is heavily pitted. Diamond grinding is not suitable for these floors because the grinding discs will only run over the high points. The only time you would grind is to make the floor smooth but it will take a long time.
- If you have a very large smooth area and you need a very fast turnaround. Grinding is a very good process but does require a follow up vacuum. Shot-blasting is a single pass prepare and vacuum but does leave a stippled surface.
- If the floor is very, very soft. Sometimes the concrete floors will be too soft and in these circumstances the grinders can be too aggressive. We recommend a lighter form of preparation like STR Scarifying / Sanding.
