Special Features

Being extremely tough and hard wearing, with excellent chemical, impact and abrasion resistant it is excellent for heavily trafficked areas. The totally impervious and chemical resistant finish also helps to protect the substrate and reduce costs due to much easier and faster cleaning.

Normally a two coat system, Flortex EPS is quick and easy to apply and can be applied over previously painted surfaces and floors. Superb adhesion qualities to most substrates. A non-slip version is also available if required.

Typical Areas of Use

Proven since 1991 in almost every industrial and commercial environment, Typical applications include floors, ramps, stairs, fire escapes, gantries, machinery, tanks, pipework and ducting along with the following:

  • Emergency areas and exits where downtime must be kept to a minimum
  • Boiler and plant rooms
  • Colour coding of specific areas
  • Line marking
  • Coating, colour coding manhole covers and inspection lids for easy identification
  • Steps, staircases and ramps
  • Production and manufacturing work area
  • Storage Areas
  • Warehouses
  • Workshops

Suitable Substrates

After appropriate preparation and priming, Flortex® EPS may be applied to concrete, brick, timber, architectural aluminium, and galvanised steel. It may be applied to both old and new concrete floors, brick, block, stone floors, wood, and metal.  Furthermore, it is compatible with most previously coated substrates.  However, due to the many and varied paints on the market, make absolutely sure the existing paint has fully cured and is fully adhered to the substrate. We then strongly advise applying a trial area to ensure a good inter-coat adhesion with the existing paint can be achieved.

Condition of Substrate (Important)

If the substrate is unstable, dusty, suffering from oil contamination or rising damp, it is very important that you contact our technical team to establish the correct method of preparation as well as the correct primer to be used, or indeed to discuss an alternative product more suited to your needs.

It is far more important to us to offer the RIGHT solution and have a happy customer, than a quick sale ending in disappointment!

Professional Help and Advice

No matter if you have a large or small requirement, if you are not sure which product to use, please feel free to contact our technical experts who will establish exactly what your issues are, along with the maximum amount of downtime you can allow to complete any work.

Only then will we advise the best preparation, the best primer and the best Floor Topping or Floor Screed, to meet YOUR specific needs.

Please consult the technical data sheet for full technical product data.

Application temperature: between +10˚C and +30˚C.

Coverage per 5kg unit: approximately 30m²

Note: This is dependent on the porosity of the substrate and the ultimate film thickness required.

Cure time:

Pot life once mixed is 18 hours at +20°C.

Initial curing: 4-6 hours

Re-coat (if required): 4-6 hours. Early over coating between 24-48 hours is strongly advised. If this interval exceeds 48 hours the previous coat should be abraded to ensure adhesion.

Full chemical resistance: 7 days

Number of parts supplied: 2 (Twin Pack).

Health and Safety Note.

As this epoxy kit includes solvents, safety precautions are necessary. It is not suitable where there might be open food within the area and should only be used in a well-ventilated environment. The user should wear gloves suitable for solvent based products. We do not wish to ‘scare’ anyone as to the use of this product as it is extremely quick and easy to use, but just want to be certain that for the best customer service, we have highlighted certain limitations.

Surface Preparation

Flortex EPS should only be applied to a well prepared, abraded (by shotblasting or similar), clean, dry surface, free of oil and grease. If applying Flortex EPS to a metal surface, this will need priming first with EPS Primer.

Mixing

Having fully prepared the substrate, stir the individual components before you mix them together. As pigments may ‘sink’, ensure that the mixing is very thorough and from the bottom of the container. Add Part ‘B’ to Part ‘A’ and thoroughly mix for at least 3 minutes. For best results use a heavy duty slow speed drill with a mixing paddle. Ensure thorough mixing as an unmixed product will result in a poor or non-cure situation.

Application

Apply by brush, roller or airless spray, making sure that the surface is completely covered. Particular attention should be given to protrusions and other areas of high potential wear. When finished, DO NOT scrape the remaining contents from the container as this will invariably include unmixed raw resin.

Pot Life and Cure Time

Once mixed is 18 hours at +20˚C. The initial cure takes place within 4-6 hours and Flortex EPS is recoatable after 4-6 hours. Early over coating between 24-48 hours is strongly advised. If this interval exceeds 48 hours the previous coat should be abraded to ensure adhesion. Full strength is achieved after 7 days.

Non Slip Applications

For slip resistance, sprinkle Calcined Bauxite aggregate onto the WET first coat. The normal sprinkling rate is 4-8m² per 1kg aggregate, but this rate may be varied between 0.5m²-10²2 per 1kg, depending on slip resistance required. This method allows selective areas of non-slip treatment to be applied as required. Spiked shoes should be worn to avoid disturbing the wet coating. Allow to cure before over coating to encapsulate the aggregate.

Application Temperatures

Normal application temperature range is between +10˚C and +30˚C

Cleaning

Tools and equipment should be cleaned whilst resin is still wet with Solvent Cleaner. Hands and skin should be cleaned immediately with Organic Hand Cleaner.

Polycote have a range of accessories including spiked rollers to release air bubbles, and kit that includes gloves and everything you need to get the job done.

Shelf Life and Storage

Shelf life in unopened containers is approximately 12 months subject to conditions of storage. Store in a cool, dry, frost-free environment (between 10°C and 25°C) away from sources of ignition.

Health and Safety
