Flortex Mezicoat is a self-priming non-toxic two part water dispersed epoxy floor coating with a high solid content of 60%. Providing a hard wearing, easy clean surface with a coloured semi-gloss finish, its formulation includes quality fillers for good abrasion and chemical resistance.
Slip resistant version available. Special formulations are available for extra chemical resistance/extra fast curing. Please contact the Polycote Technical Helpline for further information.
- Excellent adhesion to wood and metal
- Totally impervious
- Chemical and abrasion resistant
- Provides a satin to gloss finish
Being solvent-free, taint-free, odourless and nontoxic, Flortex Mezicoat is ideal for use in medical, animal and food environments. Typical applications include warehouses, factories, processing plants, showrooms, hospitals and schools.
Suitable substrates: Flortex Mezicoat may be applied direct to most substrates, including old and new concrete, stone, timber and metal.
Colour: Flortex Mezicoat is available in a selection of 14 stock colours, or in a large range of BS4800 and RAL specifications (subject to minimum quantity).
Packaging: Flortex Mezicoat is supplied in pre-measured quantities as a two part 5kg unit comprising an acrylic resin Part ‘A’ and hardener Part ‘B’.
Number of parts: 2
Application temperature: 10°C to 30°C
Pot Life: 45 minutes @ 20°C

Surface Preparation
Thorough substrate preparation is essential.
Loose paint or rust – remove, using a Vacuum Assisted Shotblaster, Floor Grinder or Equivalent method. Oil or grease – use Hot Compressed Air for large areas of contamination. Smaller, isolated deposits may be chemically cleaned with Polycote Degrease IT, and then rinsed thoroughly and allowed to dry.
Timber – remove any loose paint and abrade thoroughly. Ensure surface is clean and free of dust, oil and grease.
See relevant Data Sheet prior to application.
Once prepared, the area must be kept clean and free of traffic.
Mixing
Having fully prepared the substrate, stir the individual components before mixing together. As pigment may ‘sink’, ensure that the mixing is very thorough and from the bottom of the container.
Add Part ‘B’ to Part ‘A’ and thoroughly mix for at least 3 minutes. For best results use a heavy duty slow speed drill with a mixing paddle. Ensure thorough mixing as an unmixed product will result in a poor or non-cure situation
Application
Apply by brush or roller, making sure that the surface is completely covered. Particular attention should be given to doorways and other areas of high traffic. When finished DO NOT scrape the remaining contents from the container as this will invariably contain unmixed raw resin.
A second coat of Flortex Mezicoat should be applied after initial curing has taken place – see ‘Pot Life & Curing Times.’
Non-Slip Applications
For slip resistance, sprinkle Calcined Bauxite aggregate onto the WET first coat. The normal sprinkling rate is 6-18m² per 1kg aggregate, depending on slip resistance required. This method allows selective areas of nonslip treatment to be applied as required. Spiked shoes should be worn to avoid disturbing the wet coating. Allow to dry then re-coat to encapsulate the aggregate.
Application Temperature
Normal application temperature range is between +10ºC and +30ºC. However, Flortex Mezicoat will cure at +5ºC but curing times can be greatly extended at lower temperatures. If in doubt, please contact the Polycote Technical Helpline for further advice.
