ZP Primer is a two-pack zinc phosphate primer. It is designed for use on metal however can be used on most surfaces. It has excellent adhesion, is non-toxic and non-taint, and is extremely easy-to-apply.
ZP Primer is excellent for use on steel and ferrous metals and can be overcoated with any of the Polycote Flortex top coat range. It is highly corrosion resistant.
Typical Uses
Due to its outstanding surface wetting properties, ZP Primer is excellent for use on metal. Being non-toxic and non-taint, ZP Primer is ideal for use in medical, animal, food-processing and working environments. Typical applications include, boats, warehouses, factories, workshops, laboratories and chemical bunds.
Suitable substrates
Steel and ferrous metal surfaces, GRP, aluminium and suitably prepared wood.
Colour
ZP Primer is grey in colour.

Preparation
Recommended methods are:
Loose paint or rust – remove, using a suitable mechanical abrasion method. All loose/flaky paint and rust must be removed before coating.
Oil or grease – chemically clean with Polycote Degrease IT then rinse thoroughly and allow to dry. See relevant Data Sheet prior to application.
Existing Paint – this should be fine, as long as the area is clean and dry, however we advise that a test patch is carried out prior to fully overcoating.
Once prepared, the area must be kept clean and free of traffic.
Mixing
Having fully prepared the substrate, stir the individual components before mixing together.
Add part ‘B’ to part ‘A’ and thoroughly mix for at least 3 minutes. For best results use a slow speed drill with a mixing paddle.
Ensure thorough mixing as an unmixed product will result in a poor or non-cure situation.
Application
Apply by brush, roller, airless spray (nozzle size .021”- .027”, nozzle pressure: 1800-2300 psi ), or squeegee, making sure that the surface is completely covered. Particular attention should be given to doorways, edges, corners, bolt welds etc and other areas of high traffic.
When finished, do not scrape the remaining contents from the container as this will invariably include unmixed raw resin
Application Temperature
Normal application temperature is between 10˚C and 30˚C. Surface temperature must be above 5°C. Do not apply when relative humidity levels above 90%.
