Corrosion-reactive, ultra tough water-based metal primer
- Minimum preparation
- Easy application on rusted ferrous metal surfaces
- Converts rust to a hard, water insoluble primer finish, neutralising the corrosion process
- Results in a ready for painting surface
- Non-flammable, non-toxic
- Rapid dry
This dual-action metal priming formula is designed to penetrate and stabilise corrosion on ferrous metals.
Forms an effective barrier against water and chloride ions, thereby arresting the corrosion process for long-term protection.
Rustex is a single-pack water-based high performance primer incorporating a rust-inhibiting active constituent and a copolymer latex emulsion.
This dual-action formula is designed firstly to penetrate and stabilise corrosion on ferrous metals, and secondly to form an effective barrier against water and chloride ions, thereby arresting the corrosion process for long-term protection.
Rustex requires minimal preparation, is non-toxic, non-flammable, easy to apply and dries rapidly
Application temperature: 5°c to 40°c
Will withstand temperatures between -40°c and 60°c when cured
Touch dry: 15-45 minutes between coats
Recoat: 2 hours
Coverage:
1L = 8m2
5L = 40m2
Number of coats: 2 (recommend 3 coats for porous surfaces)
Number of parts: 1

Rustex is normally used for treatment of rusted steel prior to application of paint or other coating systems.
It is ideal for situations where blast cleaning is not practical or desirable.
Preparation:
Remove all dirt, old paint and loose rust by wire brush, in accordance with St2 standard.
Wash with a water-based detergent solution to remove oil and dust, followed by thorough rinsing with clean water.
The surface may be damp BUT NOT WET when Rustex is applied.
Mixing:
Stir well before use.
Any rust particles picked up on the paintbrush will be liable to contaminate the paint in the container, reducing the shelf life.
This can be avoided by pouring a sufficient amount into a separate plastic container for each operation.
DO NOT return unused material to the original container.
Application:
Brush application is recommended for the first coat to ensure thorough penetration into the rust.
Other application methods are:
Roller – a short nap roller may be used. Foam rollers are not recommended.
Air assisted spray – thin with up to 10% water. Use a 0.40mm, 40-60o tip and 40-80 psi air pressure.
Airless spray – typically a 28:1 airless spray unit at 70 psi would be used, with 0.25-0.40mm, 40-60o tip and 1400-2100 psi fluid pressure at tip.
