Preparation
Substrates must be clean, dry and free of surface laitance and contaminants such as oil, grease, dirt and surface treatments. A loss of adhesion and failure in the coating can occur due to poor preparation.
Vacuum-assisted shotblasting or grinding are the recommended methods for preparing the substrate.
Prior to application of Flortex® EP XFH Slip Resistant a suitable Polycote primer should be applied, depending on the type and condition of the surface.
For substrates in contact with the ground or for basement floors, a damp proof membrane must be incorporated. The base should have a relative humidity at the surface of no more than 75% when measured.
Mixing
All materials should be stored between 15°C and 25°C for a minimum of 8 hours before use. Having fully prepared the substrate, stir the individual components before mixing together. As pigment may ‘sink’, ensure that the mixing is very thorough and from the bottom of the container.
Add the Hardener (Part B) to the coloured resin (Part A) and thoroughly mix on a slow speed setting for 3-4 minutes.
Ensure thorough mixing as an unmixed product will result in a poor or non-cure situation. For best results use a heavy-duty slow speed drill with a mixing paddle.Scrape the sides and bottom of the mixing vessel with a spatula several times as any unmixed material will result in uncured patches in the final finish.
Application
Apply by brush, medium pile roller or squeegee at an nominal rate of 0.25-0.35 kg/m2. If applying a second coat, do so after a minimum of 6 hours and maximum of 24 hours.
Application Temperature
Optimum application temperature is between 15˚C and 25˚C. The temperature of the working area should not be allowed to fall below 12°C throughout the application and curing time as the cure could be retarded and surface finish adversely affected.
Particular attention should be given to doorways and other areas of high traffic.
When finished, DO NOT scrape the remaining contents from the container as this will invariably include unmixed resin.
Spiked shoes should be worn to avoid disturbing the wet coating.
Non-Slip Applications
For slip resistance, sprinkle Calcined Bauxite aggregate onto the WET primer coat.
The normal sprinkling rate is 4-8m2 per 1kg aggregate, but this rate may be varied between 0.5m2-10m2 per 1kg, depending on slip resistance required.
This method allows selective areas of non-slip treatment to be applied as required.
Allow to cure before overcoating to encapsulate the aggregate.
