Colormet Ultra SB is a self-priming enamel coating for metal based on a polyurethane modified alkyd and incorporating rust-inhibitive pigments free of lead and chromate. It dries rapidly to a very tough high gloss finish.
Typical Uses
Colormet Ultra SB is ideal for a great variety of industrial metal coating purposes both inside and out, including machinery, tank exteriors, racking, metal stairways, fire escapes, platforms, railings, street furniture and playground equipment.
Suitable substrates
Colormet Ultra SB should be applied direct to bare, manually derusted steel.
If applying over extremely rusted metal or in very aggressive corrosive environments, prime the surface with Colormet Anti Corrosion Primer to maximise rust protection and improve the finish.
Very smooth, difficult substrates such as galvanised steel, stainless steel and aluminium should be primed with Colormet Adhesion Primer SB. See relevant Data Sheets.
Colour
Available in 10 standard colours – many other colours available. Please ask.

Preparation
If necessary clean surface by alkaline or high pressure/steam cleaning using detergent as appropriate to ensure complete removal of all grease, oil or other surface contamination.
Loose coatings, mill scale and loose rust should be removed by scraping and wire brushing to St2/3 (ISO8501- 1:1988). Intact and firmly bonded existing coatings should be lightly abraded to provide a surface key.
The surface must be clean and dry during application.
When using Colormet primers first, please refer to relevant primer Data Sheets.
Application
Mechanical stirring with a mixing paddle for a few minutes is recommended.
Apply using a brush with long natural bristles, taking care to ensure the surface is completely covered.
The primer may be applied by roller or conventional spray gun if appropriate.
Roller application may require 2 coats to achieve the recommended coverage. Ensure adequate ventilation during application.
Drying & Overcoating Time
At 20°C with 50% relative humidity, Colormet Ultra SB will be touch dry after approximately 2 hours, overcoatable after 16 hours and will
reach full hardness after 7 days.
These times will vary depending on actual site conditions.
Application Conditions
Temperature of air, substrate and product must be between 5˚C and 35˚C with relative humidity below 85%.
The substrate temperature must be at least 3ºC above dew point.
