Flortex SG is a two part water-dispersed epoxy floor coating with a 100% solids content. Providing a hard wearing, easy clean surface with a coloured semi-gloss/silk finish for medium duty traffic. Aggregate may be added during application to create a non-slip surface. Two coats are required. It is easy to apply without the need for solvents or thinners and will protect concrete from oil and chemical spillages.
Slip resistant version also available.
- Withstands foot traffic, forklifts and pallet trucks
- Tough and durable, epoxy resin floor paint
- Excellent adhesion for a long-lasting solution
- Impervious and easy to clean
- Resistant to general chemical spillages
- May to applied to damp surfaces
- No priming required
- Cost-effective, industrial grade coating
Flortex SG is ideal for use in warehouses, factories, processing plants, showrooms, hospitals and schools.
Suitable substrates: Flortex SG may be applied direct to most substrates, including old and new concrete and polymer modified cementitious screeds.
Colour: Flortex SG is available in a selection of stock colours, or in a large range of BS4800 and RAL specifications (subject to minimum quantity).
Packaging: Flortex SG is supplied in pre-measured quantities as a two part 5.0kg unit, comprising a coloured epoxy blend Part ‘A’ and hardener Part ‘B’.
Please consult the Flortex SG technical data sheet for full technical product data.
Application temperature: 10°C – 25°C. Best results are obtained in warm conditions (minimum 15°C).
Coverage per 5kg unit: approx 30m²
Pot life (once mixed): 60 mins @ 20°C
Cure time @ 20°C: Approx. 24 hours
Re-coat (if required): To ensure a good intercoat chemical bond, the top coat should be applied between 8 and 24 hours later. If this interval is exceeded, abrade the first coat to ensure intercoat adhesion.
Will accept pedestrian traffic after 24 hours, light wheeled traffic after 4 days and full cure strength is reached at 7 days.
Full chemical resistance: 7 days
Number of parts supplied: 2 (Part A / Part B)
Surface Preparation
Thorough substrate preparation is essential.
Recommended methods are:
Powerfloated concrete – use a Vacuum Assisted Shotblaster to remove weak laitence and provide a surface key for the coating. If this is not possible, chemically etch with Polycote Etch IT then rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.
Loose paint or rust – remove, using a Vacuum Assisted Shotblaster, Floor Grinder or equivalent method.
Oil or grease – use Hot Compressed Air for large areas of contamination. Smaller, isolated deposits may be chemically cleaned with Polycote Degrease IT, then rinsed thoroughly and allowed to dry.
Once prepared, the area must be kept clean and free of traffic.
Mixing
Materials should be stored at 15°C to 25°C for a minimum of 8 hours before use.
Having fully prepared the substrate, stir the individual components before mixing together. As pigment may ‘sink’, ensure that the mixing is very thorough and from the bottom of the container.
Add Part ‘B’ to Part ‘A’ and thoroughly mix for at least 3 minutes. For best results use a heavy duty slow speed drill with a mixing paddle. Ensure thorough mixing as an unmixed product will result in a poor or non-cure situation.
Application
Apply by brush or roller, making sure that the surface is completely covered. Particular attention should be given to doorways and other areas of high traffic. When finished, do NOT scrape the remaining contents from the container as this will invariably include unmixed raw resin.
A second coat of Flortex SG should be applied after initial curing has taken place – see ‘Pot Life & Curing Times’, and should be applied at right angles to the first coat.
Non-Slip Applications
For slip resistance, sprinkle Calcined Bauxite aggregate onto the WET first coat. The normal sprinkling rate is 0.5kg to 2kg aggregate per 30 sqm, depending on slip resistance required. This method allows selective areas of non-slip treatment to be applied as required. Spiked shoes should be worn to avoid disturbing the wet coating.
Allow the first coat to fully cure then remove any excess aggregate before re-coating using a squeegee followed by back-rolling with a short pile roller.
Application Temperature
Normal application temperature range is between +10°C and +25°C. Best results are obtained in warm conditions (minimum 15°C).
