Cretex HT is a specialised high-temperature formulation of refractory cements and blended aggregate which, when mixed with water, forms a cement-like material capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 1400°C when fully cured.
Suitable for both internal and external use, Cretex® HT can be used for concrete repairs, screeding and as a protective render for walls and vertical surfaces. It provides a durable thermal barrier that helps protect underlying substrates from heat damage in demanding industrial and commercial environments.
Cretex® HT is ideal for use on incinerators, kilns, industrial furnaces, commercial ovens, fireplaces, stoves and outdoor pizza ovens. It bonds to a wide range of common building materials including concrete, brick, breeze block and stone, providing a durable and long-lasting repair solution for high-temperature applications.
Typical Uses
Cretex HT is suitable for interior and exterior repairs or screeding of concrete where extreme temperature resistance is required. It may also be used as a protective render for walls and vertical surfaces. Typical applications include incinerators, kilns and commercial oven installations. Also suitable for fireplaces, stoves, outdoor pizza ovens and industrial furnaces, where it provides a durable thermal barrier to protect underlying substrates from heat damage.
Suitable substrates
Cretex HT may be applied to most common building materials including concrete, breeze block, brick and stone.
Colour
Cretex HT is grey in colour.
Packaging & Coverage
Cretex HT is supplied in 10kg units packaged in plastic buckets. The coverage rate per 10kg unit of Cretex HT is 0.18m² at 25mm nominal thickness.
Curing time
The material should initially be kept cool and wet. Cover with polythene sheeting or wet cloth after 6 hours, and keep covered until 24 hours after application. A further 48 hours of natural drying should be allowed before any heat is applied. Initial heating should be as gentle as possible to allow the remaining moisture to escape without damage.
Application temperature
10˚C and 25˚C during application, and not below 10˚C until thoroughly dry
Application Thickness
6mm (general repairs) or 13mm (screeds) minimum to 50mm maximum in one layer.
Coverage per 10kg unit
0.18m² at 25mm nominal thickness.
Shelf Life
12 months
Storage
Store in dry conditions at temperatures between 0˚C and 25˚C. Protect from frost. Keep any unused material dry and store in a cool dry place away from children and pets.
Please consult the technical data sheet for full technical product data.
Preparation
Concrete repairs should be prepared with squared off edges having a 6mm minimum vertical lip. Remove all loose material – wire brushing is advisable.
Sweep clean or vacuum. The surface must be free from grease, oil or contamination. A gas torch will help to remove oil from the surface.
Mixing
Having prepared the surface, add an accurately measured quantity of clean water to the powder at a rate of 1.7–1.9 litres per 10kg unit of Cretex HT powder. Mix thoroughly for 1-2 minutes until a homogenous mix is achieved. Inadequate or excessive mixing can adversely affect the strength of the material. For best results use a heavy duty slow speed drill and mixing paddle. DO NOT MIX MORE THAN CAN BE APPLIED IN 15 MINUTES.
For screed and thin layers – provided the service temperature will not exceed 500˚C, the strength and adhesion of the mix may be enhanced by adding Polycote Bondex mixed 1:1 with the mixing water, or using Bondex undiluted in place of the mixing water when minimum section thickness is required. Please refer to Polycote Bondex Data Sheet.
Application
Dampen the prepared surface with water to reduce suction. Place the material immediately after mixing, using a trowel or float. Avoid excessive trowelling of the applied material as this may weaken the resultant surface.
Application Thickness
The recommended range of application thickness is from 6mm (general repairs) or 13mm (screeds) minimum to 50mm maximum in one layer.
Application Temperature
The ideal ambient, material and mixing water temperature is between 10˚C and 25˚C during application, and not below 10˚C until thoroughly dry. Cretex HT should be stored at no less than 15˚C for 48 hours prior to use.
