Certainly! This is no problem at all. We would normally paint up to a transition such as an expansion join, or the end of some racking, for instance. However, and just to be clear, we can start and finish wherever you like. The only thing we would suggest is that you buy enough paint for the complete area. This is for two reasons: a) to ensure you have the same batch number of paint. Nothing worse than joining to different batches together, especially when it is across the middle of a room.  And b) to purchase all the product required in one order may well qualify you for a greater quantity discount. All products have a sliding scale, depending upon the quantity bought. As far as the installers are concerned, you just want to try and arrive at a maximum area size that can be coated in one day. This will help keep the overall cost to a minimum.

If you are looking for a clear sealer, we have Flortex Clearseal, a water based single pack acrylic paint. We have Flortex PU which is another single pack paint but is a high solids polyurethane and seals to an excellent, very hardwearing finish. Alternatively, if you would like a coloured floor, we have our single pack PB (Polyurethane Based) Floor Paint, Flortex SG, is a twin pack water based epoxy or our top of the range Flortex Professional which is a twin pack high solids pure epoxy resin.

The most important point to start with is to remove as much of the loose and friable material as possible. It is pointless to paint a loose surface.  As we will tell you on the phone…, ‘you might as well paint the sand on the seashore and then wonder why it lifted’. So, our installers will remove as much of the loose as they can in order to expose as solid a surface as possible.

Also, such substrates are often very porous. It is therefore important to apply the paint or sealer thick enough so that there is enough paint to penetrate the substrate. If the floor then appears patchy, this is because some of the area has covered well and the dully areas are where it has soaked into the floor.  On such areas we may need to apply another 1 or 2 coats (especially the clear sealers) in order to bring it all to a uniform finish. Ultimately, we would like to pre-warn you that the total quantity of coating required, is completely dependent upon the porosity of the substrate and the final finish required.

This is entirely up to you. to give a full coat of paint (including under the racking) certainly seals the surface which in turn not only looks a lot nicer but more importantly, stops the dust and reduces the time and effort of cleaning. It is far easier to keep an impervious surface clean, than a porous section of bare concrete.
