Our Expertise in Action: The Milton Keynes Station Square Project
When the Milton Keynes Development Partnership (MKDP) set out to transform Station Square – a 3,000 m² plaza outside the city’s main train station – they needed more than just a durable surface. They wanted a piece of public art that would inspire civic pride and stand the test of time.
The result was “Walk With Your Dreams”, a vibrant floor mural by British-Nigerian artist Yinka Ilori, unveiled in October 2025. It’s now the largest floor mural in the UK – and Polycote played a central role in bringing it to life.
Meeting the Challenges
Polycote supplied a full specification and product package to ensure the mural could be installed safely, beautifully, and durably on new tarmac, overcoming a range of technical challenges:
- Challenge: Fresh tarmac & adhesion issues OT Floor Primer. Solution: oil-tolerant epoxy ensuring strong, lasting bond.
- Challenge: Colour brilliance & weather resistance. Solution: Quick Coat EP – supplied in 13 custom RAL colours, UV-stable and hard-wearing.
- Challenge: Safety underfoot. Solution: Anti-slip aggregate incorporated in the topcoat for public safety.
- Challenge: Protection against graffiti & wear. Solution: Graffitex – a clear, anti-graffiti, UV-stable top layer for easy cleaning and longevity.
