Warehouse / Storage / Wholesale

Flooring installations for the wholesaling and warehousing Industries

Warehouse and storage facilities are expensive, they take years to commission and their lifetime is often in decades. They are obviously one of the most important elements of a business enterprise and this is why facility design and the strategic thinking that should precede its implementation are so important.

Layout and efficiency are two important aspects in the design of production rooms. Polycote work with many blue chip companies in providing advice as to the toughest surfaces to install together with bespoke colours that will greatly enhance both appearance and workflow.

The advantages of Polycote products and Polycote approved installers

Commissioning Polycote to install your floors will bring unparalleled advantages! Using the same products, the same colours and applied by the same teams to the same standard ensures a uniformity throughout every one of your sites nationally, that you’ve never known before.

If you have numerous locations nationwide, we invite you to consider the major benefits of each location having the same colour walkways, the same line marking colours, the same safety colours, same sized hazard boxes, emblems, stencils, etc, etc. Your corporate image will take a huge leap forward. Furthermore, as employees are easily able to recognise hazardous areas, even when visiting a different site within the company, you will experience a notable reduction in the number of accidents.

Warehousing and Storage Areas

As we all know, the creation of dust from wearing floor surfaces is one of the major issues that every warehouse and storage facility must contend with.  Furthermore, these loose dust particles then act as a grinding ‘paste’ on the surface and thus only exacerbates the problem. By preparing the floors correctly and priming with the correct primer, the longevity and performance of the top (wearing) coat will be massively increased.

Where the storage of food and medical products are concerned, health and safety regulations are becoming ever more demanding.  Companies involved in these industries are increasingly changing to the latest resin flooring solutions as local authorities are demanding surfaces that are impervious, seamless, resistant to bacteria and easier to keep clean.

We offer some of the latest technologically advanced coatings, and our nationwide network of approved and experienced installers will be quick to respond, technically aware, proactive and flexible.

Loading Bays

The pressure to reduce costs and increase efficiency is relentless. This often results in a drive to minimise the time taken to complete each individual delivery, even to the point of contravention of loading regulations.

Our installers have access to products that not only give a long-term solution to loading bays, no matter whether it is an internal area, or external areas subjected to weathering, but also with fast curing capabilities. Indeed, we have products that can accept heavy traffic in less than an hour and even in cold storage facilities, we have products that can cure down to -60°C in as little as 1.5 hours!

Polycote customers are now also proving the benefits of colour coding such areas. By clearly showing visiting drivers where they should go, means less questions, less hassle and less mistakes for both the employee and the visitor!! Steps, kerbs and loading bay edges should be highlighted for the sake of health and safety in any case. However, the use of colour coding will not only result in greater accuracy for employees, but also prove a far faster turnaround for visiting delivery drivers.

There are many more reasons for painting your loading bays. Slip resistant coatings significantly reduce accidents to both personnel and property and sealed floors hugely reduce the amount of dust, cleaning time and on-going maintenance.

Chemical Areas & Bunds

For wholesalers and storage of chemicals such as electroplating, passivating to galvanising, from battery acids to the spillage of solvents and other petrochemicals, Polycote is dedicated to providing long term protection of your property from chemical attack.

Polycote regularly manufactures chemical resistant coatings bespoke to customer’s specific requirements and suitable for both internal and external applications. Most importantly, we don’t just sell ‘chemical resistant products’…… we offer you the protection you NEED.

Having worked with companies storing almost every type of conceivable chemical, we are fully conversant with the chemical resistant coatings needed to ensure that environmental policies are met, and the integrity of your company is maintained.

Chemical containment areas (bunds) are often of major concern as so many are unable to contain the specified liquids due to being insufficiently chemical proof. Built only from brick, block or concrete they are often unable to prevent leakage and environmental damage.

Car & Lorry Parks

Polycote produces a range of screeds and protective coatings, suitable for almost any hard exterior surface and capable of both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Whether you are needing to rejuvenate worn and weathered surfaces, protect against ice and salt, acid attack in car wash areas or simply looking to transform your car park, roads or walkways for aesthetics purposes, we produce coatings that are not only tough and durable, but also resistant to chemicals, weathering and freeze/thaw cycles. Cemcoat – will resurface old and frost damaged (spalling) concrete and greatly prolong the life of the substrate. Aquadec – an ideal choice for waterproofing multi-story car decks or where a road or parking area is over a basement. Pebbletex – completely natural pebbles locked onto the substrate, producing an attractive, durable, slip resistant and weed free area.

Line marking has long been an on-going nightmare for most companies and Polycote has a full range of extremely hard wearing epoxy and thermoplastic solutions, together with a range of numbers, letters, signs and logos.

Offices

Carpets and Lino have long been the favourite for most offices. However, offices, as well as connecting walkways and passageways, are notoriously difficult to keep clean and constantly fall prey to the daily stains of spills and general dirt.

From warehouse managers to commercial office designers, all are finding the huge benefit of installing a totally impervious resin floor finish. With an endless range of colours, our installers will transform ‘old’ and drab areas of yesteryear, into a modern, bright, contemporary area of the 21st century. Blends of company colours can also be included within the mix to bring a completely new dimension to your corporate image.

We can even include glitter for an extra sparkle! Furthermore, our self-smoothing Freeflow system will not only bring a high gloss finish to your room, can level out dips and bumps, and will restore an old, worn and tired floor to a super smooth finish with industrial strength.

FAQ’s

I cannot close the whole area. Can I paint the area in sections?

Certainly! This is no problem at all. We would normally paint up to a transition such as an expansion join, or the end of some racking, for instance. However, and just to be clear, we can start and finish wherever you like. The only thing we would suggest is that you buy enough paint for the complete area. This is for two reasons: a) to ensure you have the same batch number of paint. Nothing worse than joining to different batches together, especially when it is across the middle of a room.  And b) to purchase all the product required in one order may well qualify you for a greater quantity discount. All products have a sliding scale, depending upon the quantity bought. As far as the installers are concerned, you just want to try and arrive at a maximum area size that can be coated in one day. This will help keep the overall cost to a minimum.

What can I use to stop the dust?

If you are looking for a clear sealer, we have Flortex Clearseal, a water based single pack acrylic paint. We have Flortex PU which is another single pack paint but is a high solids polyurethane and seals to an excellent, very hardwearing finish. Alternatively, if you would like a coloured floor, we have our single pack PB (Polyurethane Based) Floor Paint, Flortex SG, is a twin pack water based epoxy or our top of the range Flortex Professional which is a twin pack high solids pure epoxy resin.

The most important point to start with is to remove as much of the loose and friable material as possible. It is pointless to paint a loose surface.  As we will tell you on the phone…, ‘you might as well paint the sand on the seashore and then wonder why it lifted’. So, our installers will remove as much of the loose as they can in order to expose as solid a surface as possible.

Also, such substrates are often very porous. It is therefore important to apply the paint or sealer thick enough so that there is enough paint to penetrate the substrate. If the floor then appears patchy, this is because some of the area has covered well and the dully areas are where it has soaked into the floor.  On such areas we may need to apply another 1 or 2 coats (especially the clear sealers) in order to bring it all to a uniform finish. Ultimately, we would like to pre-warn you that the total quantity of coating required, is completely dependent upon the porosity of the substrate and the final finish required.

Do I need to paint under the racking?

This is entirely up to you. to give a full coat of paint (including under the racking) certainly seals the surface which in turn not only looks a lot nicer but more importantly, stops the dust and reduces the time and effort of cleaning. It is far easier to keep an impervious surface clean, than a porous section of bare concrete.

Will a floor paint fill in holes and cracks?

Can we just start by saying that no paint is designed and sold for filling holes. Yes, in theory paint can fill a hole but in reality, you tend to apply just as much paint to the ‘hills’ as you do the ‘hollows’ and the net result is that it is extremely difficult to fill the hole so that it is unnoticeable.  It is MUCH better if the holes and or cracks are filled with a floor filler or repair material.  For this we have Polycote Easifil which is excellent for very small holes and fine cracks. We have Cretex EP which is an easy to use two part epoxy floor repair that can feather edge to nothing. Finally, we also have Crackfiller EP100 which is an ultra-low viscosity pure epoxy resin that is designed to flow into and fill surface cracks. As a final point, our floor repair products are far better suited to fill holes and in fact a far cheaper alternative than using ‘paint’, when pricing kilo for kilo.
